The Short Story
I have been addicted to JDC Baits NEW BLR Bomber for the last month, and with good reason. I caught fish from day one including a new personal best LM Bass (6 pounds 10ounces) caught my third time out with this great new bait. If you enjoy targeting bigger bass and like big bass baits, the Bomber will make a great addition to your big bass arsenal.

The BLR Bomber is big, I mean real big. This new 10” soft plastic “senko” type bait has just what the doctor ordered for targeting big bass. The BLR Bomber is currently available in three colors, see it for yourself and order here: BLR Bomber

The Long Story

Just about a month ago, I received my first order of JDC Bait’s new BLR Bomber, Green Pumpkin to be exact. Holding the bomber in my hand contemplating my first day out with it, I decided a heavy action rod is a must because this beefy stick worm weighs close to 1.5 ounces. Next issue at hand is rigging; I opted for T/Rigging the bait with a large Parasite Clip just to be sure I get all I can from this bait. No frustrations with the bait sliding and as the bait gets a little beat up, I can continue to fish it anyhow. The 11/0 Owner Over-Sized Worm Hook was a match made in heaven in my opinion. This 3.5 inch long hook when combined with the large Parasite Clip has an ideal hook placement in this bait when rigged.

Day One (bombing for bass):
My first trip to a lake with the bomber was pure excitement, if I didn’t hook a fish, I was sure going to get one with the concussion of this bait splashing down while I learned to control so much weight while casting. To my surprise, it didn’t take very long before I had some anticipated action from a willing and hungry largemouth bass. It wasn’t the biggest but, it was soon followed by another bass just as hungry. Both are pictured below and you can get a great idea of the baits size in relation to these two average bass.

I ended this first day with a great bite, lots of pull and a fish swimming towards me, “this has to be the one I’m after” I think to myself. Stepping backwards to close a gap of slackening line, I step on and break a custom bass rod; I don’t suggest this part to anyone. I’m still kicking myself for that swift move. Needless to say, that was the end of day one.

Day Two (Hidden Lake with the bomber):
My wife and I arrive at Hidden Lake for a couple hours on the water. The sky was clear with a stiff wind and real HOT! We motored directly across the lake in search of shady pockets and just three casts with the BLR Bomber lands me the below average fish. I had one other bite on the bait that day which I missed but, the fish, even average are interested in JDC Baits Bomber.

Day Three (bombing for bass with a vengeance):
It’s now time to return to the lake where I caught my first fish on the Bomber. There is a fish in there that cost me a custom bass rod on my first visit, and I personally think it has my name all over it. I headed directly to the spot where it all happened and begin bombing the area with a vengeance. Keep in mind; I’m still using the same bait I began with thanks to Parasite Clips. This bait is tattered and torn and an inch shorter but, it’s still fishable when a Parasite Clip is used to hold the bait in place on the hook. See the picture below of my beat up bait, it’s still going.

After about 15 minutes of fruitless attempts to coax a fish from one of the many pockets in the huge weed bed I’m fishing. It’s time to break out the sauce, CB’s Hawg Sauce that is. A quick decision and CB’s Shad Gel is the ticket for the day. I add some shad gel to the bomber and start working through the same pockets for a second go around. Just a few casts later and I am the proud winner of the battle, it put up a heck of a fight but, I won. A new personal best Largemouth Bass for me weighing in at 6 pounds 10 ounces; it has been a long time trying to beat my personal best. Check out this fish below.

In Closing:
Since catching a new personal best, I am addicted to searching for bigger fish with bigger baits. I don’t leave home without my heavy action rod and some bombers. Fishing soft plastic baits like this can be productive and can also teach anglers patience. It is sometimes quite awhile between bites but, that’s a price you pay targeting bigger bass. Just the other day, I managed to catch back to back 2-3 pounders and they were the only bites I had in the 1.5 hour we fished.

When fishing for largemouth or smallmouth bass with soft plastic baits in the summer it is critical that the baits you use have some kind of action on the fall. I found my bass on a shallow drop off today in slight current and rocks and landed 3 bass in under 40 minutes on the 5” Gibroni on a shaky head rig.

The bait held up Well even after 3 fish.
